The "Uncanny Valley" and some Virtual Reality Junkies - by 3DAR
The video "Uncanny Valley" provides a vivid, sobering and disturbing view of virtual reality's potential social impact. It is about 9 minutes long.
According to 3DAR, the Argentina/Brazil based production team "In the slums of the future, virtual reality junkies satisfy their violent impulses in online entertainment. An expert player discovers that the line between games and reality is starting to fade away. 3DAR’s latest short film explores the frightening potential of our next technological revolution. Stay connected, but not too much ;)"
Note: The concept of "uncanny valley" was developed in 1970 by robotics professor Masahiro Mori. He believed that as the appearance of a robot becomes more human-like, some people will have an increasingly positive response, BUT when it becomes TOO human-like, the response can turn to revulsion.
